An Old Sad Story
The girls and I were cooking some banana bread yesterday night and samonella came up in conversation. I then said, "Kirsten you had samonella before, remember?" really she was to young to but I thought I might ask. We had went to my Uncle's celebration of life ceremony and we were late. So by the time we ate the food had been out for quite sometime already. She had chicken and a roll, so the chicken wasn't her friend that day. Later the next day I noticed that there was blood in her stool and freaked out, we went to the doctor and hand to do stool samples (I of the most disgusting things I have ever done) and bring it back to the doc. Hours later they called and said she had samonella. This isn't the sad part, the sad part is Kirsten had this large bear with a little t0shirt that said "my grandma rides a Harley", I got it for her before she was born. As a toddler she grew to love this bear and named in her brother. She played with him, slept with him, he was her favorite toy really. She had really bad #3 when she was sick with the samonella and accidentally got it on him. The Doctor told me to really be clean with the hand washing and stuff because the poo is contaminated also. Here is when it gets sad, I told Kirsten we had to though away her brother, because he got the sick poo on him. She was devastated, and she understood as much as a two and a half year old could. She watched me walk out to the garbage can and put him in it and cried huge tears for a while. When she went back to preschool she told all the teachers "Mommy threw my brother in the garbage" they were a little confused and I had to explain later that day at pick up. Later that year when it was Christmas she wanted a new brother from Santa and he granted her that wish.

Poor Kirsten. Although the "throwing away her brother" was a little comical.
